Sam Cundey introduced the Henry Poole Special Red Tie in the 1950’s. Sam Cundey joined Henry Poole & Co’s Paris branch in the Rue Tronchet in 1924 but returned to London in 1927 on the premature death of his father, Howard. He worked at Henry Poole till his retirement in 1975. When customers asked for neckties to match their fancy worsted cloth suits, Sam blended black into red silk and the Henry Pool Special Red Tie was bon. Though new colours have since been added, the original red tie remains popular today. There are also matching cufflinks and bow ties available in what is now fondly known amongst customers as the Cundey Weave.
